This Lamington Spiny Crayfish made a rare appearance in the Springbrook National Park in February. This bright blue freshwater crayfish, also known as a yabby, is a threatened species classified as vulnerable to extinction.
Gold Coast photographer James Wills saw this Lamington Spiny Crayfish (Euastacus sulcatus) seen at Springbrook National Park in February. It's a freshwater crayfish, or yabby, that's bright blue in colour and roams the forest floor when conditions are damp. If encountered, it can be very aggressive waving its claws back over its head and hissing audibly. It can deliver a painful nip if handled. They're a protected species only found along the border of Queensland and NSW between Springbrook and Main Range above 300m altitude. Congratulations to James Wills on a great find and a wonderful photograph.
