ACCELERATING CONSERVATION OUTCOMES

Save the Daintree's Revolving Fund is a market-based conservation instrument with the primary objective of meeting the real estate market to achieve conservation outcomes. We aim to build this fund to a minimum of $5 million to allow for the purchase and protection of high conservation value properties in the Daintree. To ensure the financial viability of the revolving fund, we ask that supporters of the fund contribute a minimum of $50,000.

The Revolving Fund is a strategically important resource that ensures biodiversity conservation can be increased by meeting supply provided by owners of private properties with high nature conservation values with demand from people in the community who wish to donate to support the purchase and protection of these values. It is a highly effective way to buy and conserve land that needs protecting, whilst being able to meet the market, recover costs and do it all again.

Funds from the Revolving Fund are used to acquire high conservation value properties and proceeds from fundraising campaigns are used to replenish the fund and purchase and protect additional properties, creating a continuous conservation investment cycle and dramatically increasing the amount of private land protected. Funds are used to buy private land that has been identified as a priority for conservation.

Save the Daintree's Revolving Fund supports the purchase of high conservation value properties so they can be protected in one of 3 ways:

  1. Facilitating transfer of properties into Queensland’s Protected Area Estate as National Park (CYPAL).
  2. Having properties declared as a Nature Refuge.
  3. Entering into a Conservation Covenant and returning rainforest properties to Traditional Owners.

The value of the Revolving Fund is further supported through the contribution of the Rainforest Rangers volunteer program. The voluntary efforts of our Rainforest Rangers program helps minimise administrative costs while maximising the on-ground outcomes delivered by the Fund.
