Electric Ant Petition: Milestone Achieved
Our campaign to eliminate invasive electric ants from the Daintree Rainforest has reached a major milestone. With 5,002 signatures, we’ve exceeded our target and are ready to take the next step.
The Urgency Behind Our Call
Since the first confirmed outbreak in October 2022, electric ants have continued to spread across the Daintree Rainforest — a globally significant ecosystem that has stood for over 120 million years. By early 2024, three new infestations were detected between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation, intensifying the threat to this precious natural heritage.
Electric ants are among the world’s most destructive invasive species. They:
-
Displace native wildlife and disrupt ecosystems
-
Inflict painful stings on people and can even blind pets
-
Harm agriculture and undermine tourism
-
Threaten human health and degrade quality of life
