Lot 70 Forest Creek Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest can now be purchased for conservation thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors.

On the 30th of June we found that we'd fallen short of our end of financial year fundraising target for Lot 70 Forest Creek Road, however, throughout July support continued to roll in and we reached our fundraising goal.

Now that we've raised the funds we can proceed to settle on the purchase of Lot 70 Forest Creek Road and ensure that development for housing will never again be an option.

Thank you to each and every one of you who made this incredible outcome possible

When we visited Lot 70 Forest Creek Road in April with ecologist Kristopher Kupsch he identified 169 species of native plants. You can see the summery of the survey here
The property adjoins the Forest Creek Wetlands and is mapped as being of Aquatic Conservation Significant (riverine wetlands). We've added more information and pictures on the Forest Creek Wetlands here
Through land buyback, we’re turning the tide towards conservation in the Daintree Rainforest and protecting the biodiversity of this incredible ecosystem. Buyback of at-risk freehold land is the only was to stop development. We need to keep buying at-risk properties for conservation.

Habitat saved: Noah's Walnut (Endiandra microneura) is listed as a threatened species

Deposit needed for the next Daintree property purchase

Lets not stop now. There are ten at-risk Daintree Rainforest properties being offered for sale right now. They will likely be developed for housing unless we buy them first so as soon as I have raised enough funds to pay a deposit we will bring another property under contract.

Please, will you donate now and help with the deposit on the next Daintree property

Thanks to supporters like you we have now purchased and protected 32 rainforest properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest!

Saved: Old growth tropical rainforest at Lot 70 Forest Creek Road

The Daintree Lowland Rainforest is the oldest rainforest on Earth, having existed continuously for over 120 million years. It holds exceptionally high biodiversity and conservation value and is part of the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest remaining in Australia. A rural residential subdivision approved by the Queensland Government in the 1980s created 1,136 freehold properties. It's these blocks we are purchasing to Save the Daintree.

Please, will you donate now and help with the deposit on the next Daintree property

We're so thankful for all you do to save our rainforests.

For the future,

Kelvin Davies

Founder of the Save the Daintree program and Gondwana Rainforest Trust.

P.S. Every Daintree rainforest property we purchase sparks the process for it to be considered for protection under Queensland legislation. This includes the potential for it to be included in the Daintree National Park (CYPAL). Before this happens we will work to remove a number of exotic plants found on the property to restore the rainforest to full health, ensuring this ecosystem can continue to flourish unhindered.
